How CJ keeps you safe

Effective: 1 October 2026

If you need help now

  • Australia: call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14, any time.
  • United States: call or text 988.
  • Anywhere else: findahelpline.com lists free, confidential services near you.
  • In immediate danger: call 000 in Australia or 911 in the US.

CJ is an AI, not a person

CJ is the AI companion inside every MTMOT app. She remembers what you tell her so she can help you over time, but she is not a person, a therapist or a clinician, and she cannot help in an emergency. Every conversation with CJ shows that she is an AI. If a conversation carries on for three hours or more, CJ reminds you again. If you ask CJ whether she is a person, she tells you plainly that she is an AI.

What happens if you tell CJ you are thinking about suicide or self-harm

  1. Every message you send CJ, in our apps or by replying to her emails, is checked for signs of suicidal thoughts or self-harm before CJ replies.
  2. If a message shows those signs, CJ stops what you were working on. She responds with care and without judgement, and she does not try to counsel you or talk you out of anything.
  3. The crisis services above are shown to you directly, every time: under CJ’s reply in the app, or in an immediate email reply, with numbers you can tap to call or text.
  4. CJ encourages you to contact one of them now, or someone you trust.

We record only that a safety response was shown, as a yes or no, so we can check the protocol is working. We keep no extra copy of what you wrote, and no one at MTMOT reads your conversations.

What CJ is for

CJ helps with confidence, reflection, sharpness and the practical side of returning to work. She is not a substitute for professional medical or psychological care. Our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy say more. Questions about this protocol go to [email protected].
